2.0 intake problems

I am working on my 83 ranger and there is something on the side of my intake and I have no idea what it is hopefully one of yall can help me out. I'll post a pic of it if needed

yeah, pics would help...but the EGR is one of the main components on the intake side...

Sorry it took so long for me to reply but I did take the egr valve off and now there is just a block of metal at the bottom of the intake, I would post a picture but I cant figure out how to I'm on my phone
