i bought an 88 ranger 2.0 yesterday, the carb is giving problems,so i was wondering what carb swap options would work... i was told a pinto carb would bolt on the stock inake if the egr spacer was removed and an adapter installed. this would be only a temporary fix till i get the other motor together. ive got a 2.5 shortblock, d port head, RW #2 grind cam, and a holley 350 in the works. but need the truck for DD, till the new motor is done.

maybe i was mistaken, i was just flipping thru the RW catalog and found the adapter plate to mount a holley 350 on both a stock 2.0 manifold and the RW cannon manifold. has anyone ever used this setup?

If you figure this out please let me know. My 2.0 carb is giving me problems as well. A rebuild kit for it is $100. WTF?? And what is this RW catalog?

i ordered the adapter from esslinger today, i will post up when it comes in about the results... oh, and i found a holley 350 cfm 2bbl from a friend! :clapping:
sorry about the cloak and dagger... RW= racerwalsh

this is the adapter i ordered, esslinger had it cheaper than RW. i hope it works, i think it will... the reason i am hesitant is i dunno if they are talking about the early pinto 2.0 and if it had the same flange as the ranger 2.0... with my luck, i wont know for sure 'till it gets here.

They are definitely different engines...but you may be able to use carbs with the right adaptor...if the adaptor is for a Ranger 2.0 it will work, but the D port heads should use a D port intake and the 2.0 is O port...meaning you're going to have a port mismatch and fuel pooling...

Better off to get the 2.3 mustang intake with the D ports...and the appropriate adaptor...that Esslinger did have at one time...not sure about RW though...

Thanks for the info Mike. If you have good results I will be going the same route.

The best setup to use is to get a 89 fuel injection intake and use the bottom half and get the adapter for the 350 holley or motorcraft. You can find the intakes on ebay for under $60 and the adapter new is under $100.Cheap HP.The adapter that you have listed will work also just won't flow as well as the E2740

actually i have a fuelie intake for the combo i mentioned earlier, i was just trying to get a better carb. for this 2.0 'till i get my 2.5 ready to go.

and as a side note, i spoke to a salesman at esslinger today, he said the adapter i ordered was for the early (upto 74) pinto 2.0, not the ranger! back to the drawing board!

Sounds like you are in my boat. I emailed the Holley people about the 7448 carb and they said they did not know of any adapter that would work. They also said that it was not a good choice for that engine. Suggested a factory re-man unit instead.

if i didnt have bad luck.... i wouldnt have any! a carb kit for this is over $100.00!!!!! what are they thinking?? i think i will just get by 'till i can do the engine swap.

I feel your pain. I took mine and soaked it in B-12 Chemtool for about 15 minutes then the next day used some sea foam. It's better, but not like it should be. Stupid thing doesn't have any adjustment other than idle speed. I would love to find a complete fuel injection and swap it out.

But you're still going to carb the 2.5, right? And you're using the 2.3 head?

Then using the 86 lower intake as suggested with the 350 holley will still work...just need the adaptor for the carb...

yes, what i am trying to do is improve the 2.0's driveability until the 2.5 w/ D port head swap is ready. the adapter needed for the 2.0 is different from the one needed for the fuelie intake.

OK, understood...just trying to suggest using the same setup for both if possible to save some $$$...you can use the lower intake and holley with the 2.0 even with the mismatch...

I ran the 2.3 carb (Motorcraft 5200) and intake on my 2.0 for a while and it actually ran much better (but I used the D-port head and not the 2.0 head)...the 2.0 carb and emissions setup is difficult to get working porperly (or was with mine because half the parts were missing when I got it)...

Hope you find a workable solution though...I'm sure the 2.5 will give you much better grunt and overall performance than the 2.0 once you get it all working properly...
