2.0/2.3/2.5L Family

We were wondering why my '94 has so many plug wires.

As for why, more complete combustion. There's lots of theories out there on what is going on but it's simpler than most imagine... It's simply just to get spark on both sides of the piston, the coils fire at the same time not offset and they're even waste spark so they fire on the exhaust stroke (at least until there is a cam sensor in the system) since it only knows when cylinders 1 & 4 and 2 & 3 are at TDC basically not which cylinder is at compression... You can mix and match plug wires for those two pairs as well if it helps the wire routing...

Hi guy new to this I have a 1988 ford ranger Xlt 2.9 and have just brought a 1986 2wd ranger Xlt but has no engine or gear box would a 2.3 pinto out of a mk2 Granada year 1978 fit in my new ranger as the engine mounts and sit nice don’t mind if I have to change the engine mounts a little just if I have to start moving everything about will be a right pain many thanks Mitch

The 2.3 pinto is a 4 cylinder engine, is that the 2.3 you're asking about ?

From what I can find the 1978 Granada MK2 used a 2.3 V-6 Cologne engine

Yes sorry your right it’s a v6 not a pinto that I want to put in but I’m not quite sure what engine came out of the 86 ranger so I was wondering would the v6 2.3 would go in as I’ve seen there are 2.3 rangers in this year but there turbo diesel and the engine I’m getting is a petrol so would it fit in there ok many thanks Mitch

I just read part of the original post and would like to point out that the EAO engine had nothing in common with the Lima engines. The EAO 2.0 was typical of German engineering- it still had solid lifters in the 70's when everything else used hydraulics and was prone to failures. The oil pump relief valves would stick and blow the head gasket under the carb area, so we had to pull the head, raise the engine, and replace the pump, all before replacing the head gasket. The cams were prone to failure, a cam change on a LIma 2.0, 2.3, 2.5 is a minor job because the cam slid out the front. Not so on the EAO 2.0, the cam came out the back so the head had to come off first. If Rube Goldberg designed the 4.0 SOHC cam drive, his father designed the EAO 2.0. Given a choice on a pre-Lima Pinto, I would opt for the oil leaking, underpowered Kent 1.6 over the EAO.

Does anyone know the cam timing events of the roller ranger cams? Specifically looking for when the intake valve closes so I can figure out what Ford had for dynamic compression.
