1st gen totalled?

@87RangerXLTct
That sucks but I see no broken glass, bend or replace the bumper, any replacement grill...do your best with the little scratches, bumps and dents.

I too would go for the maximum insurance quote, shy of totalled. Get the frame checked, doesn't need to be pretty ..). Bar a couple hammer-outs, his truck now has character!!

That bumper is pretty wrecked. Takes a lot force to do that. Mine wasn't that bad and my frame is bent. Not terribly, but it's there. I had to enlarge a couple holes to fit the lift kit and put spacers on the driver's side core support mount to level it out.

That said, I see worse driving around almost every day here.

I’m going to go look at it tomorrow, I gave it a quick once over right after the accident. The door to fender gaps looked like they hadn’t changed. But I couldn’t get the hood open or crawl under it at the time, to check the frame.

having went through this with a 2010 Buick Lucerne in 2024... the car was driveabvle, didn't look that bad either. got rear ended on I 70 in Indianapolis. Car was worth roughly 6,000 dollars. Option to buy back was 600. the only thing that I had to do was throw all of the parts that the body shop removed in the trunk and drive it home. it was in the middle of January, so after putting the taillights back in I just drove it until it got warmer and then put the bumper cover back on it and fixed it with duct tape that matched the paint. believe it or not, out of 20 Lucernes that I looked at in the pull apart in both Indianapolis and Louisville, none, not a single one, had a rear bumper worth removing.

Ended up trading it in for a 2020 Edge in July. that Edge got totalled, my buyback price for it was 2500 bucks, and the damage to it was severre enough that i needed a reliable car right now and didn't have time to peice that one back together again. let that one go, watched the online auction for it and it went for 3500.

Another note on the 2010 Buick. it did not get a branded title, Insurance guy said that i would keep my Indiana Title, but from what i got from him, the VIN would be noted as it was paid out as a total loss and could not be reinsured full coverage until it was repaired. He did say that if I fixed it (probably could have fixed it with a junkyard bumper if I could find one that was decent) the insurance company would inspect and then if fixed to their tastes and desire it would be eligible for full coverage again

so if the frame is good, I would say fix it. get non rusted OEM fenders/ bumper/ hood etc... don't get the LMC chinesium fenders...

Thanks guys, went to look at it today and the frame is definitely bent. It’s like the whole front end got pushed 8” to the right. Talked to a lawyer today to see if I might be able to recoup some of the money I sunk in it, and he says they look at clutch, transmission and front suspension rebuild is considered normal wear and tear stuff. He said they might take the new tires into consideration.
I guess I’ll wait and see what the insurance offers.

If you plan on replacing it with a similar truck the tires will likely be a huge help. Same for the clutch and transmission too.

The back end could live on as a pickup box trailer or something too.
