Hello,

I have searched section for any chime related posts, and haven't found any that match.

I purchased a used 1999 XLT Sport. I do not know much about these models and am stuck.

When driving, at random times and un predictable, I get a series of 5 "alarm chimes". Sometimes it goes on and on, sometimes stops, but no matter what, it still drives me crazy.

All doors are fully closed, seat belt/s on properly and no warning lights ever accompany the chimes.

I have found posts suggesting the driver's door switch, but again the door light never comes on (except if I actually open it). I have found posts suggesting the seat belt switch, but again, belt is on and no belt lights accompany it.

I do know that the window and door lock switches have recently been replaced on the driver's side, but again, no door ajar lights come on.

I can hear the difference in the various chime warnings, is there a 'code' for identification purposes?

Thanks for any help.

Does the air bag light come on when you turn the key on? I believe when the bulb is burnt out, it does that.

I just checked that stuff, and the airbag light does not come on. The ABS and the seat belt lights do not come on either.

I hope I just happen to have some cooked bulbs.

Thank you for the help.

I found and replaced two burnt out bulbs in the cluster.

The annoying chimes have stopped, but both of the Airbag and the ABS lights come on at start up, and stay on.

According to an owner's manual, that means both systems need to be serviced.

Thanks for all the help.

check the bulb on the airbag switch, right under the dash. if thats burnt it will make the chime thing too
