Well i started my v8 build a couple weeks ago and its been going smooth until today. I bought a 2000 mount. for a donor and i am useing an advanced adapter for my transfer case so i can use my ranger case. Well i install engine no problem, install trans big problem! tha adapter i bought is 3" inchs to long. Now my question is whats my options. I mesured exactly like they told me.

The trans to t-case adapter is too long correct? You have the spud shaft to joint the two shafts as well? The spud shaft is needed, if you don't have it. I'm not all that sure they make different legnth adapters or at least not have the correct shaft to make it work. Best bet would be to give AA a call and see if you have the right stuff.

Sounds like AA is wrong again. Mudslanger's writeup in the tech library (Explorer into 2000 Ranger) mentions getting a wrong adapter also. Different trans but same problem.

"The Advance Adapters site lists the 9-inch adapter for the AOD/BW conversion.

This is WRONG INFO...

The 4R70W was 20.5-inches long from bellhousing to where the tailhousing bolts on. The transmission in my truck measured 29.5-inches from bellhousing to transfercase. Cool, with those measurements I thought 9-inch adapter kit. Come to find out, when I installed the 5.0 in the truck and attempted to do a test fit with the transmission with the adapter on, it was too long. looks like the 5.0 sits further back in the transmission section about 4-inches. So 5-inches is the right one I need now. I'm guessing this is the measurement for all XLT Rangers...

I did the exact measurements they told me. I just checked there web site and i couldnt find a shorter adapter. This bites i wana drive!

I'm thinking AA made this adapter for TTB rangers, and when the newer ranger frames came out, they didn't design a kit for them. I don't know, but its possible the dimensions are different. I'm currently doing a v8 swap into an 02 sport trac using a 1356 so i have low range...

I'm gona call AA tomarrow, hopefully they will help me out so i can get my truck goin. I also sent a pm to mudslanger, it sounds like he has already been though this same issue. The rest of the swap is almost done, just gotta get this AA thing taken care of. Thanks for the help everyone ,yall are helpful on TRS.

I called AA today and they went out of there way to help me out. I got the right part number from mudslanger (thanks mudslanger for the help). Now all im waiting on is UPS! Thanks again guys!

Got my AA installed and trans back today. Gonna be driven this weekend. Thanks advanced adapter for the help ( Great costumer support).

I'm going to buy my adapter soon so should I just call AA and see what they recommend because it seems I can't trust the measurements going off what I'm reading on here. And hey farmboy, how did you resolve your problem?

I'm sure you will need the 5 inch adapter. Just make sure you have the same measurement from motor mount center point to the trans cross member on both motors. I got my transfer case installed today, i should have it running tomarrow.

I almost forgot i had to trim about 1/4 inch off my transfercase input shaft. If you read muddslingers write up in the tech library he shows pics of the shaft you have to trim( its easy i trimmed mine in ten min, its not a big deal).

No mods right now, but i plan on some tm headers and maybe 1.7 rockers.
