I know this has been beat to death but i have a 1992 f-150 5.0l and am stuffing it in my 1999 ranger. My only concern is motor mounts. will the explorer 5.0L mounts work?? or do i need to fab new ones? or is there any aftermarket mounts for the newer trucks? thanks for the help

The Explorer mounts will bolt into a 98+ 4x4 or other torsion bar Ranger. You would also need the plates that bolt to the 5.0 Ex block.

If the 98+ Ranger is a coil spring model (such as a 99 2WD), then the 5.0L Ex parts will not bolt in and some fab would be needed.

BTW, if you try to use the 92 F150 engine as-is in a 99 Ranger, you will have clearance problems at the front accessory drive, the oil pan and the exhaust manifolds. On the 5.0L Ex engine, those parts are tailored to fit a 98+ Ranger engine bay.

These are the 5.0 Ex engine mounts and plates:

Teddy, think it's all due the frames being farther apart on the coil springs. That's one comment that GregR has mentioned before in why it's easier to put the DOHC motor into one with the coil spring suspension. Maybe not?

Factory mounts will not work, talk to Mac he will hook up up with the blueprints for the correct ones for a small donation to the owner of the prints and they fit good. Mike

anyone else able to shed some light on this matter? facts only please, no opinions

Mike, I guess I have sent out too many plans but don't remember you, Sorry. Any problem getting them fabricated? Any pictures of what you ended up with? Gotten very little feed back on how they really fit. More and more are doing the later swaps with the Explorer motor so just wondering.
Thanks - Dave/Mac

The Prints were good, I made them myself as my friend has a machine shop. I'm fortunate to have full use of his shop on my projects, (He uses my rack for his projects) so it works out good. I will try to get pictures up soon.

Fact is I was asking a related question within your thread.

If you would like more facts, post the setup of your truck.
Else search for other opinions. We've covered your options for motor mounts here.

I wasnt refering to your question, i was refering to the fact i got 2 totally different answers and need something diffinative before i waste my time with something that dosnt work.

The answer about motor mounts is different depending on whether you have a 99 4x4 torsion bar Ranger or a 99 4x2 coil spring Ranger. We still don't know which it is.

Do it yourself, smartass.

As Mr Rwenzing has just stated, AGAIN, you still didn't say what type of truck you have.
The question has been answered two ways already, as there are two front suspension types.

Go pound sand.

Sorry but you will always get two different answers. Torson bar suspension can use the stock Explorer mounts, coil spring takes the special ones, Mustang won't work. That's not my opinion, just know what works. Seems like some people got a lump of coal in their socks for Christmas. I had to say home due to the weather and had myself a Christmas pizza!

sorry to hear about christmas dinner, the truck is a torsion 4x4. sorry, i was a little confused by mikes first post when he said stock mounts wont fit, i thought that meant for any application. thanks for setting me straight. i do appreciate the help, just a little crabby about all the haters on sites like these. my question is answered and thanks for the help.
didnt mean to offend you teddy

Meakin, Now that the mount problem has been solved, what about headers?
Dave
