1999 Ranger 3.0 (Flex VIN) 126" WB - Fuel Tank Sending Unit

My mom's escape is flex and if she ever asks me to work on it I think I am going to tell her to sell it.....

Well Brain75, we may be in the clear.
Before I start putting things together, I figured I would do some testing. The fuel relay has been pulled, so I plugged the sending unit / pump assembly in and cycled the key to the run position and it dropped to empty, then I moved the float and the gauge didn’t move. So I didn’t think anyway… holy heck, it moves extremely SSSLLLOOOWWW… LOL

I did a few more tests with the float in various places, set the float and walked away and came back in a few minutes… then it moved, so I think I’m good to assemble things tomorrow.

fingers crossed.

the anti-slosh module makes the needle move gawd awfully slow - so that it doesn't bounce around.... there's a video of one working and it is like 10 full seconds to get an accurate reading to change to the arm position.

This one is minutes. Regardless, if it travels full to empty and back, I’m good.

Thanks for pushing me to do the sensible thing. It was not too bad of a repair. Hopefully, it goes back together better than it came apart, which I’m sure it will.

If I have to dig into the system again, I’ll give the bed removal process an attempt.

Not a prob at all.. I hate the cold and it is like 8 degrees here so I haven't been outside in a few days - more than happy to have the brain exercise of this rather than just vegging out.

Going back together was not bad at all.

She read empty after the install and crept up the gauge when I put some fuel in it. I call this one a win.

Now on to some other issues.
- Idle drops excessively when slowing down or coming to a stop.
- Electronic T-Case not working.

New threads will be started for each.

might corroborate with doug (dougjustgotout) on the rough/low idle when slowing/stopping. He has a 4.0 I believe but same issue.... might possibly be similar cause.

Very in-depth read on the fuel gauge / anti slosh module on the Ford Trucks
Also difference in sending unit ohms values, gas vs flex
