1999 Ford ranger replacement bodys?

I have a 1999 Ford Ranger Extended cab, V6, 3.0L flex fuel, 4x4. Well the transmission was replaced 2 years ago and only has about 60,000m. And then then engine went last year. I replaced that with an engine from cali with 60,000 and now about 100,000. The engine is a from a windstar van, 2.0L (thats all i know at the moment). Well now the body is falling apart piece by piece way faster than i can fix it. So I'm looking to get find a car with a dead engine, low miles, and cheap to swap my engine and tranny into. Could i look for newer models of ford ranger? Or do i need the exact same model as mine?

The big body/suspension change occurred in 98. Anything after that is pretty much the same as far as I know. They made the 3.0 up close to the discontinuation, 2009 or so, so if you find a ranger with a dead 3.0 it should be pretty close to a bolt in.

Arent there laws about putting an engine from and older car into something newer? I could be wrong but thought I remember hearing that somewhere

The old engine has to pass emissions for the year of the body. No laws just impractical.
