1998 x-cab doors being a pain in the .......

Anyone know why in the heck my rear doors will not open? the top comes loose but the bottom will not unlatch and my door ajar light on the dash is always on it wont go out? Any help and or pics would be great Thanks!

The plastic door handle wears out inside the door. Each of the latches (top / bottom) has their own connection to that latch. The rods tend to bend too straight as well. The fix is to pull the door panel off the rear door go in and fix the bent rod / replace the door handle.

Just bought 98 with xcab. I have the same problem with the passenger side door, top latch works, bottom latch does not catch. Yes, door ajar light is on. My plastic door handle looks and seems to work fine. It has two wires (top and bottom) and both are taught. I tried to pull the bottom one a little with a pliers, no difference. I partially popped off the door panel and did not see any quick problem or solution. Then it started raining, so tomorrow I will try to pop off the whole panel and look carefully for a bent rod or something like that. However, if anyone has any additional advice I am all ears! I live in northern Illinois and although the truck has virtually no rust, I do notice the door u-bolt on the driver's side is rusty and I wonder if the passenger side is rusted or corroded? You all are awesome with great comments. THANKS!
