1998 with no reverse

I have a 98 ranger xlt, 4.0L automatic 4x4, and i went to back out of a parking space, drove about 5 feet backwrad sand there was aslight clunk and then it was like my truck was in neutral but it was in reverse. All the forward gears still work just fine. Im pretty pissed off right now i have only owned the truck for not even 2 months and theres only 84000 km on it.

Im probably going to need a new transmision right?

Broken reverse band...common problem.

Tranny needs to come out torn down and band replaced along with a new reverse piston servo.

how much do you think something liek that would run for at a shop, ill probly check it out after work tomorrow buti dont wanna eb shocked when i get there ahah

i know this is old post....but this just happened to me so i need to know what you did to fix it......same thing just happened to be backing out of the driveway......freaking sucks!

Me to. My 98 has no reverse. But forward gears are fine. It has the 3.0.
