1998 Ranger Vacuum Solenoid

[Danger Ranger 4.0]

So the other day, my dad was working on his 1998 ranger 4x4. It has those JUNK vacuum hubs and they were not working so he was troubleshooting them using this site. Well he took the vacuum solonoid out to test it but he just ordered the AVM hubs so he didnt put it back in. Now the check engine light is on, the ABS light is on, and the speedo dont work? Any advice?

Well the ABS light and speedo not working along with a CEL is a definite sign the speed sensor in the rear axle has died most likely. Being the ABS and speedo both rely on that sensor, and mine did the same exact thing. It's a cheap part(about 16$ if I remember correctly?). I'm pretty sure it's just a coincidence and has noting to do with the vacuum solenoid. But I may be wrong being I'm not the most familiar with the vacuum hubs.

Perhaps he buggered up an ABS sensor on the front when he changed hubs

The question is, did he remove the vacuum solenoid completely, and if so - along with the PVH system - did he plug the vacuum lines running to the solenoid? Otherwise he's going to have an unmetered leak AFTER his MAF and the engine will run lean....

Just a guess tho, but sounded logical at the moment lol.
