Hey I have a 1998 ford ranger 2.5 two wheel drive. I just replace the engine and I have no heat and the gauge stays all the way on the bottom. I have replaced the t-stat with 192 from napa. Upper hose gets hot. And the heater hose gets hot to. But I believe the heat problem is due to a mis ran vacuum hose. But I still have no temp gauge which is my main concern. My other truck a 2005 f250 went down the other day for egr cooler and oil cooler. So I'm trying to hurry and get my temp gauge working for nothing happens to the ranger.

That was my first plan of attack. Just wished it worked. I ever did the water test by heating water on the stove with the new t-stat worked fine. I know the fail rate is high right out the box.

if you have heat from the heater it is getting to temp. you probably have a faulty temp sensor. as long as the engine doesnt overheat you will be fine

I agree the gauge issue is probably the sensor itself, especially if you just put an engine in it and didn't swap your old sensors over.

The heater issue almost has to be a vacuum line. First thing I would do is take the heater bypass valve out, get some barbed fittings the same diameter, and then throw the valve in the trash to eliminate it as the culprit.

I replaced te temp sensor when I replaced the t-stat. And yes I replaced the right one not for the computer. I ground it out and it swings all the way up. So The gauge is working. I'm just stumped

And when I had a small block 302 in here I used all stock gauges and the temp even worked fine then. That what I don't understand. Unless the water pump might be going?

if you remove the temp sensor does antifreeze run out? just woundering if there might be a air pocket in there some where

For that matter, an air bound heater core wouldnt get warm either

Yes it will run out the heater is not working cause I ain't getting no vacuum to the valve . No air pockets.

It had a 302 last and has my original temp sensor. Worked fine now it nor the brand new one works

Like has been said "Probably" the sender. Just had a problem like this a couple months ago and found this good guideline to trace a probable cause. Mine ended up being a blown intake gasket that was blowing out the coolant.

No Teflon tape... I guess I'll try another t-stat and maybe it will work. I think it shitty y-stats from the part store.
