The 4wd was working last week, but I changed the upper control arm and lower ball joint and wired in a radio about 3 days ago and today I tried to put it in 4wd and the 4x4 high and 4x4 low lights flashed on and off together at the same time. Since trying to engage it into 4wd, those 2 lights have been flashing all the time...even in 2wd. I should also mention it has pulse vacuum hubs. I thought I might have messed up wiring in the radio, so I took it all back out and inspected the wires going into the 4wd switch and there was no nicks or cuts. The wiring to the radio looked like nice clean splices and there was no splices or crosswiring with the 4wd switch. I also should mention that I had the cv axle loose and the spindle and hub assembly loose to change out the lower ball joint. What could I have did to cause this problem? Is it just coincidence? Maybe a blown fuse? It doesn't even act like it is switching in the transfer case.

Update

Today it works. Why? It set all night and now it works. What the hell? That makes no sense to me. Any ideas on what it could be?

Not working again

It stopped working again and will not work at all now.

Check the vacuum lines. Might have yanked a line loose going to the hub. Also could be cracked. I took mine off tho and didn't plug my lines when I went to live axles. I didn't have flashing 4x4 light tho...

Still having problems....

I converted it over to live axles over the weekend and did away with the pulse vacuum hub bs. Anyways, I still have not improved anything. Both lights for 4 high and 4 low flash off and on together when I try to engage it in 4wd. I hear a bunch of clicks behind the radio and then the clicks stop and both lights start flashing. Is there a 4wd relay behind the radio or what? I am 100% convinced now that it is some kind of wiring issue. It doesn't even try to switch in the transfer case. I climbed underneath and listened....and nothing. It only clicks behind the radio in the dash. What could it be? I am probably going to start tearing the dash apart next weekend and see if I can locate the source of the clicking and then start testing wires. I just wanted to know what I was getting into before I start hunting for wiring faults any further than I already have
