I have spent the day removing the dash and half the engine compartment to replace the heater core following the instructions in the tech support area. I have a big update to the instructions. After spending about an hour trying to undo the clips from the monster plugs on the inside of the cab I went back to the front and was able to wiggle the cover behind the plugs on the firewall and it came off. behind it were the backside of the clips and I was able to very easily squeeze them and push them through the firewall. I was seriously considering lighting the truck on fire after an hour under the dash in the sleeper hold position described in the procedures.
I also removed the steering shaft assembly without removing the ignition switch, seemed easy but I have not reassembled it yet.
Thanks for the procedures, my Chilton book is also going into the garbage. It says to remove the 4 bolts on the cover and access the core...
