1998 Ford Ranger 4x4 not working!

i have a 1998 Ranger and the four wheel drive does not lock in, you can hear it shift when you turn the knob but it doesnt engage anything. what can i do to fix the 4 wheel drive?

Its ur lockout lots of people have that probablem with that in to 4x4 best bet is manual lockout. Or u can rig it up to work but it will be like the lock outs are locked out all the time or I have read about people cuting a hole where they could make them work just till they got there manual lockout but I would suggust the manual best fix and most reliable I went the all the time locked out on the 98 I had it worked

how hard are the manual hubs to install?
