My brother has a 1998 F150 with the electric 4x4. When we engage/disengage 4x4 you can hear a 'clickup, clickup, clickup' and it will not go into 4x4 high or low, but if you turn the truck off and then back on, with the switch in 4x4, it will go in. What do we do?:icon_confused:

I don't know if it is the motor but I would love to know if it is a solenoid or if there are any other electrical components that could potentially go bad. Are there any tests I could perform to diagnose the problem.:dntknw: Thanks.

Try tapping the shift motor with a hammer while it is being shifted and making the 'click' noise.

Dont 'tap' too hard or you will def have a prob with the shift motor, LOL
