Hello friends!

I hope this isnt like Potter Puppet Pals Although my truck would probably be Voldemort.

Anyways... I have a truck here. newer refurbished engine. It just started up for the first time today and its making a lovely (not) clicking noise that is coming from the engine bay.

I pulled the spark plug wire and checked if the clicking stopped or continued for all cylinders. The clicking stopped with the boot pulled when i checked cylinder # 3 pass side by firewall.

What the bloody hell is going on with my engine...?

Input is greatly appreciated

Here is the link to the video with all the goodies.

It sounds to me like a collapsed lifter. Were the lifters replaced? You may also want to take the valve cover off and recheck rocker arm torque values. Also could be a loose connecting rod on cylinder 3 if it disappears when you unplug the wire.

And for the lazy people like me.... here's the embedded video.

Alright! So i changed both the plugs and wires and started it up again.

The noise still persisted but i did notice that when i revved up the engine to about 3k the noise stopped and only seems to happen at idle or very low revs.

Another note is after i shut the engine off the header on the passenger side of the engine was smoking a tad... W.T.F.F

The only thing i cant find where it connects is the ground coming off the firewall that is like a blue strap. Where does it go. As of right now i had it grounded to the top of the intake manifold i sincerely doubt this is right but after some research i concluded it was to ground out the block.

Im baffled. Im probably a dumbass to destroyed my engine somehow putting it in or the engine was just bad in the first place. I think the first.

Anyways. is there anymore suggestions on what it could be?

Tho the engine has many grounds mainly the engine mounts but usually that ground strap either goes from the block to the fire wall or heads to fire wall, that ticking maybe interferes from the plugs, but its hard to say because thinking about it more it mayb ur ticking noise is cuzed by the valve train, or worse a spun bearing, u Said it goes a way at 3k, mayb u think it goes a away becuz u can no longer hear the ticking, that smoke ur seeing could be oil from a pushed out gasket somewhere, im gona guess head or valve cover gasket, my only suggestion is to take it to somebody u trust to look at it

Did u put after market headers on or r they the stock ones, if they are after market then the smoke ur seeing is the finish pf the header being baked off which is normal

Ummmm, maybe. I wouldn't be making a habit of running the engine, and especially revving it up until you've looked at the valvetrain.
