1997 Ford Ranger Starter trouble?

We recently replaced our positive battery cable, and after installation, the starter went out. We got a new starter, and after its installation, The engine will turn over but will not start. was wondering if this is a common problem, and if it has a solution. If possible i would like to know what parts should be checked, and where they are. Thank you!

When you put in the starter did you hook up all the wires? I don't know the 97 but sometimes the hot wire from the battery goes straight from the battery to the starter.In other words when you changed the starter did you disconnect the rest of the car?

maybe you blew a fuse. check ecu fuse, etc..........also determine if you have fuel and or spark?

Make sure you got everything hooked back up. My positive battery wire had several connections spliced onto it (I don't know if that is standard or the work of a previous owner). When I was hooking everything up I missed a wire and it caused a stack of headaches. Remember that some have fuseable links at the ends, so the colors will be different.
