I was wondering what kind of transmission fluid goes in the standard in my 97 Ranger? I read somewhere its not plain AOD or type F its something I cant remember. I have a rear seal leaking and need to top the tranny back off until I can fix it.:icon_confused:

In my 94 5spd I run Ford Mercon V & a bottle of friction modifier for smoother shiftings. It helps really well on those cold mornings. No autoparts store I have been to sells it. I get it from the dealership. I believe the 94 and 97 3.0 5spds are the same type of transmission. You should be able to run the same type of transmission fluid that I am using.

i dont run friction modifier but meh works good for me. shifts better than my wife's dads f-150. just keep changing it at intervals and it will be good 2 go
