The other day my transmission started leaking. Its an auto. It looks like its either the back of the pan gasket or the gasket between the tail shaft and the trans. Today it stopped leaking all of a sudden. The dip stick still reads in the full range. I'm still going to change the pan gasket and trans filter tomorrow. Do you think that that this may be the solution to my leaking. Also how do i know if i have a deep or shallow trans pan? I can not find antype of repair manual at any store near me to help me along with basic knowledge. I've only ever worked on chevy trucks before, not ford. Please help me. Thanks

Deep pan is the 4wd trans. Shallow pan is the 2wd trans.

As for the fluid. Check the owners manual or search around on the forums/tech library.

I'm assuming auto because you have a pan.

If it stopped leaking all the sudden (we call that head trash)
just a particle has stopped it up, or you are too low on fluid for it to leak.

your issue isn't fixed, check the book, and give us more info please.
