well fellers my dad just did the stupidist thing and bought a 2004 chevy colorado and chances are ill be getting his old ride, a 1996 ford ranger xlt 4x4, 5spd, with warn manual lockouts. got the 4.0 in it and a limited slip rear end. mom said it will probally be my graduation present. plan on putting a 2-3'' lift on it and probally some 33''s. what all do you recomend doing to it?

the ranger that i have now i got from my father(i had to help him out for the summer)and im glad he did give it to me because the next truck he owned he wrecked.

is the 31''s all you got done to yours? i got mine for a graduation present. mines got 2'' blocks under the back, so the back sits up quite a bit higher than the front. i wanna get a leveling kit and maybe a 2'' lift on it. if i put a lift on it though wont i have to get longer break lines and what not? i aint never lifted a truck or anything. anyone got any info on what all you would have to do for a 2'' suspension lift?

well if you are willing to throw down just under 300 dollars and a weekend I would definately upgrade to poly bushings all around. And for the lift...IMO, I would stay away from a body lift...and I really don't know what to do about the 2 inch suspension lift but probabley longer coils in front...and you probably wouldn't need to worry about using new brake lines if you just use bigger coils, and you would definately need an alignment.

haha 300 bucks is what im wanting to spend on the lift and everything total. if i were to buy a 2'' suspension lift would it come with new coils or just coil spacers. since my ranger already has 2'' blocks in the rear would i just need to put longer coils in it to have a 2'' lift?

ok another question...if i put 2'' longer coils on it would i have to put longer shocks on it?:icon_confused:

anyone out there? what about a 2'' coil spacer. would that work?

i got a 96 with the same stuff u got, plus 4.56s and LSD D35. If i had my time back i wouldn't have put the 3'' body lift in it, i'd just put a 4'' or 6'' suspension lift in it and been done with it. I put a hole in the floor with my body lift...:icon_welder:

4x4 rangers come stock with 2 inch blocks in the rear

the front you can get away with using some washers as spacers.. you can fit 7 washes an still have enough threads left to catch the nut for the coil seat. that should net you about 1.5 2inches of lift in the front.. the back you can use explorer 4 door leaf springs.. that will lift about 2inches as well.

eh im staying away from body lifts. i think they make yer truck look ugly.

x2!!!!

And if you do any suspension lifting more than 1 or 2 inches it would probably be a good idea to use bigger shocks.

And by the way I just replaced all my old rubber bushings with polyurethane ones and holy sweet baby jesus..the ride is so much more smoother, quieter, responsive, got rid of that clunk sound over every bump and it gave me an awesome project to get my girl freind into which she is starting to enjoy working on vehicles and possibaly being bit by the ranger bug, haha!!! And another thing is, you definately wanna replace all of the bolts, nuts, and hardware that deal with the bushings...unless you could reuse it, which in my case was one of the axle pivot bolts...the rest had to be cut out.

Sorry for the story but I hope you found this motivating or at least interesting, possibaly usefull!?!
