Hey guys what is the newest year of taurus / ranger engine can i put in a 1996 2 wheel drive pickup?

Any Taurus 3.0 up until their final year (2007) should work, but take note: putting a FWD Vulcan into a Ranger will require switching to the RWD style head gaskets.

And intake manifolds. And Oil pan. And Exhaust manifolds. Use the Taurus long block/heads/rotating assembly. Everything else should be from your ranger.

ok thanks guys so the cam wont be issue?

Oil Pan from the FWD will work in the Ranger 2WD, I have done it twice and like it better than the stock pan as far as clearance and the baffle situation inside.

The Cam works well in a Ranger, you will still have good torque for a 3.0 with the Taurus setup.

Almost. Any 12 valve engine wik work. The DOCH will require more extensive modification.

Lol, yeah, I meant just the Vulcans. A Duratec 3.0 or Yamaha (SHO) 3.0/3.2 will be a bit more involved.

I figured that was worth pointing out since technically (aside from the SHO V8) they all had 3.0s.

The last year for the Vulcan in a Taurus would have been 07. The 500-body only got the DOHC version.

1986-1991 or 92 the base engine was the HSC 2.5L and 1988-1995 the 3.8 was optional.

Since 1996 was the first year of OBD-II, you should be fine
