1996 cam suggestions?

An old thread but ill bite and respond anyway.

The stock "Roller" cam is actually well suited to the stock 2.3L and just about maximized for street use with good economy and torque..Of course ,it does lack on top end power but you can make a trade off if youre willing to purchase an adjustable cam gear and retard the cam 4 degrees to Zero...You will lose some torque below 2500rpm but above that is a torque increase all the way to redline as well as a power gain...Use a 3.73 or 4.10 gear to take advantage of the change so it doesn't feel like much of a loss down low in the rpm range.

Another alternative, since not many provide roller "EFI" 2.3L Cams, is to have someone re grind the factory cam for you to improve performance...Ill be having this done myself when I get ready.

One more option you have is to keep your 96 cam and use 97' 1.86 ratio rockers..The lift increase would go to .443" from the stock .396" lift but you have to do some custom grinding on the rockers where they fit over the valve ends to make them work..They are slightly narrower and wont fit over the 96 and down valves from what I understand.

I haven't done this personally nor do I know all the details on it but ,thought I would mention it..I would be aware of any possible valve spring and or valve clearance issues if any, before doing it.
