I just purchased a 1996 Ranger 4x4 4.0 auto with a bad trans and only 106,000 original miles. I also purchased a 1993 parts truck 2wd 4cyl manual. Can I swap the 93 5-speed into the 96 auto? Is the pedal assembly the same and how difficult is the swap? What do I need to attach the 5 speed to the transfer case? Is the 93 2wd 5-speed the same trans as a 96 4x4 5-speed?

Thanks

You will need another trans to source the output shaft, the tail housing and other associated bits. AKA you need a different trans.

The output shaft is one of the last pieces to come out and one of the first to go in so you have to go pretty deep into the trans to change from 4wd to 2wd.

Also, 4-cyl and 4L do not have the same bell pattern, and the bell housing is integral to the trans case, it can't be swapped, so you can't use that trans anyway.

Unless you need interior parts, body panels or frame bracketry your "parts truck" has no parts you can use.
