I have read so many post about what motor mounts to use what is the easiest way to do it with the max clearance.i have heard convertable mounts froma 95-96 mustang,i have heard stock explorer and all over the board. Can someone who has done it please give me details on what i am going to have to do to the cross member to make it work and what mounts to use.again i have a 1996 2wd 4cyl. ranger and am using a 1996 5.0 explorer engine w/gt40 heads.:icon_welder:

Pre 98 Ranger- '87-'93 mustang foxbody convertible mounts or 94-95 Mustang GT mounts will be fine. Hope you have GT40s, not the GT40-Ps..

Thanks now will i have to modify the cross member or drill new holes or will set in the factory slots.:icon_thumby:

The motor will drop wherever you want it. My mounts hit a stock hole on one side. But I cut slots in the crossmember to fit the mounts. (same as a Mustang) It's completely simple.

Put the motor and trans in together, hook up the driveshaft, then mark your holes, possibly save a couple dollars on driveshaft mods.

Thanks thats what i was looking for. Thanks for the help.:yahoo:

Motor mounts convertable vs not

I was told to use fox body convertable v8 motor mounts on my 96 2wd ranger splash what is the difference between fox body convertable mounts and not convertable mounts aint the motor mounts the same?"
again i am putting a 96 explorer 5.0 in a 96 2wd ranger splash what motor mounts do i need that work the easiest.thanks for all of you guys information it is very appreciative.:icon_thumby:

Not sure if their is a difference in Regular Vs Convert mounts...But I used Vert mounts because it was suggested to me and they worked fine.

The 'Vert mounts are interconnected. The Coupe mounts are not. Seems to me that a 96 might already have holes present in the crossmember for the V8 Exploder mounts ? Or am I wrong ? :icon_confused:

Only problem I see with this Teddy, is you could end up with a bigger headache in trying to fit the radiator and FEAD. Driveshaft (mods to me) are a simpler thing.

do i use a left and a right mount or the same side for both i have been told both?

One of each and swap them, left on right and right on left (bolted to the block, not the frame). You will need to set the engine and transmission in place, level the carb pad, center the engine using the fenders as a reference (can't use the frame as it's not parallel and not centered under the body) aim the transmission tail toward the pinion. You will also want to move the engine as far back against the firewall as possible. Then mark where the mount studs are touching the X-member. You will then need to raise the engine back up and cut a vertical slot down from the marks to allow for the downward movement of the studs when you set the engine back in. What I did was make 4 mount studs to replace the bolts normally used. Studs are easier to align into the mount holes when you remove the engine later for any reason. I leave the mounts bolted to the X member for this.

Probably not, the front of a '96+ 5.0 Explorer is set up like a '98+ Ranger.

Use the explorer plates and V6 ranger rubber mounts...I have a 96 ranger and did this, check out my build thread on the very first post for detailed photos...

The Vert style are said to be a little lower. The interconnected vert style were also use in Lincoln Mark VII and '94/'95 Mustangs.

Similar to this:

I was citing an example of what worked for me. I didn't have to mod anything up front, other than putting the stock rad under the core support. I guess it's the kind of thing you'll know right away if the driveshaft will cause issues. You are correct, if needed a modified driveshaft may be easier.
