1996 2 door flareside TRX KILLER!

Ordered some bits to build a new exhaust a few days ago.. recieved the tube today, muffler should be here tomorrow. 2.25" stainless for everything.

Still need to get a cat.. a universal 200 cell Flowmaster can be had for a smidge under 100$.. probably the route I'll take. Add in a bung to put the post cat sensor in and I'll still be under 300$ for a setup that'll definitely outlive the truck.

Got the truck over to where I can more easily and less aggrivated-ly work on it over the weekend.

First order of business was to replace the valve cover gasket, which.. unfortunately.. was super aggravating 😑 🤣 got it though.

The cover wasn't in as bad of shape as I thought, figured it had some holes in it and expected to need to order a replacement.. but nope.. got lucky.

I quickly removed the scale and then hurriedly sprayed it with some primer followed by some good ol rustoleum to save on it until i want to buy one in better condition.

..more soon.

Now would be a super opportune time to at least look at the drivers side spark plugs... I think mine were original at almost 200k... but I don't remember, that was 6 months ago or so, I think last fall... also now would be a great time to do the valve stem seals... but with the small valve stems not too likely to use too much oil from there...

From what I remember the blue Felpro gasket is the good one...

But with all that said, when I had the upper intake off to change fuel injectors and spark plugs I didn't change my valve cover gasket that seeps a tiny bit so I understand the fighting the fires that are beating you up at the moment :)

Id love to find something like that, Dad just got a blue reg cab 2wd flareside a few months ago. ‘99 or 2000. 2.5/auto. Has a cap, under 100K miles.

I believe i popped a plug boot off each side after i got it home and what I could see of the plugs appeared pretty new.. am planning on spinning a couple out though for confirmation.

Not gonna mess with valve seals.. even if they do leak I can deal with it until I get a new head and lumpy cam.. hoping that will be spring or earlier.

I havnt opened the box to look.. but I DID buy a felpro kit and the listing DID show it as the blue gasket so.. here's to hoping lol.

4th Ranger and my 4th 2.3 haha, first step side though.. Definitely pumped about that. Good little trucks.

Damn thing went on much easier than it came off lol, and it was indeed a blue gasket in the box! Weeeeeee! It's just snugged down for now.. forgot my torque wrench at home like a dummy.

Plugs are new on both sides, and they're autolites so thats cool.. Pcv makes a satisfactory rattle.. for as clapped out as the truck is.. the PO obviously still kept up on maintenance which is awesome.

I'll be back over to mess with it some more one day this weekend.. torque the cover down.. put the intake and crap back together.. probably change the oil.. little bits of this and that.. really can't wait to get to the exhaust 😎 soon enough.

BTW My friend fixed up his Ranger and then sold it. Now he wants to buy another.
What's wrong with us!

All I know is a Ranger is an extremely fun vehicle to ruin some tires with lol

Follow along! Tried to capture how crummy it is at the moment the best I could.
