My Buddies truck had the timing belt go out on him he replaced it now he has a bogging issue we've tried everything we can think of FUEL FILTER, FUEL PUMP, EGR, MAF, CAT, PLUGS + Wires, O2 SENSORS, COIL PACKS and still bogs any ideas? We are stumped no check engine light.

ICM? The ICM went out on my 94 and it ran terrible. Had to go up small hills from a start in 1st gear. Usually could go up most small hills in 2nd. Probably would have swapped the ICM first if the coils measured good with a meter. I would think the check engine light would be on if the ICM was bad though. Its possible some valves were damaged when the belt went out.

The 96 2.3L is a non-interference engine, so I doubt you have a valve issue, at least not related to the timing belt breaking. But it may be possible that timing marks were not perfectly lined up when you put the belt back on. I've never seen an ICM go bad without turning on the CEL, but I suppose it could happen, stranger things have. I'd go back and carefully check the position of the timing marks.

One other thing to try is to remove the neg battery cable for a while, and reset the computer. Maybe it's trying to run on bad data related to the broken belt? Just a thought, but worth trying just to be sure. Hope it helps.

I was told my 94 2.3 was a non-interference engine also. I replaced the belt before it broke. However the mechanics said even though it is non-interference the space is very close and if there is some carbon buildup on the valves and pistons it could cause interference.
