I'm having 2 issues and no further ideas. (1) When accelerating the engine cuts in and out, turn on the air conditioner and it smooths right out.

(2) Engine idles fast at a stop light. Let clutch out partway to slow the engine then push the clutch back down and the rpms stay down at the proper level.

I got a repair manual but I have found no help. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

95 rangers never came with a 2.9L

You forgot the 3rd problem you have.

You have no idea what engine is in your truck.

Maybe someone slippped him a mickey. When I do my 4.0 swap, if the 2.9 is still running, I am thiniking about swapping the 2.9 back into the donor so I can sell it and get more out of it. I'm planning on finding a '90 ranger though for the '90 BII I'm looking at.

to the OP, post up some pics and we can identify your engine, that and some of us here would be intrested in seeing a 2.9l in a gen3..

Be nice guys. I'm sure the poster meant 2.3L but I know you guys are kidding. He / She may not.

Being a 95 I'll assume you have already gone through the usual things. Fuel filter, dirty air filter etc.....?

Let us know what you have checked already if anything.

And welcome to TRS!

Can't help effectively if we don't know the correct engine.

And I would not assume 2.9 translates into 2.3. I knew a guy who bought a Ranger and though 4-cyl automatically meant 4.0.

sorry about that. It's a 2.3. I've changed all the engine sensors except for the crank position sensor, a new # 2 coil, plugs and wires then checked the computer again and nothing shows up in the codes.

I'm leaning to an idle air control valve ( some call it a motor ). I suppose your 95 is OBD I or is it a rare OBD II 95? Idle air won't set a code all the time and almost none of the time on OBD I.

If it's a 95 with a 2.3 it's OBD II.

You sure got a lot of useless asinine comments for a simple typo. Waste of time.

I would check the IAC, as it adjusts the idle for cold start, A/C load changes, and power steering input to compensate for the load of the pump at idle, such as when parking.
Are you sure the A/C is not being limited by the WOT switch? It will disable the A/C clutch so you have all available power to move when you floor the throttle.
If the engine is surging except when the A/C is on, I'd have to give that some thought, as it is the opposite of what I'd expect.
