Does anyone know why a 1997 Ford Ranger is faster than a 1994 ford ranger
both with a 2.3l i4 and a 5 spd manual trans?
Thanks,
Mike

Like you took two Rangers and raced them? Many things... Vehicle condition, driver ability, track conditions, tires, tire size, gear ratio, transmission, weight, added options, 4x4 or 2wd... You could go on all day... Why does it matter? In the end it's still a 4 cylinder truck...

Gear ratio, tire size, weight of the driver, driver capabilities, etc., etc. all play a factor.

If I am not mistaken, the 97 had slightly bigger injectors, slightly bigger valves, and a much better upper and lower intake design.

Thanks wizkid00104 thats what i was looking for.
Thanks,
Mike

This.

The 1993 and 1994 2.3 produced 98HP, while the 1995-1997 produced 112HP. This was the Lima engine if I'm correct, starting in 01 they went to a duratec 23NS. This one has 140something hp I believe. Some early 01 trucks may have made it off the line with the old Lima engine, I'm not 100% positive on these numbers or dates btw.

That's not even enough to tell... With 14 more horsepower than me I could take anyone if I was a better driver than them... Now, make it the 2.3 Duratec vs the Lima and you have no chance... That Duratec is a snappy little motor...

Clearly it was the driver or other factors, I was stating the differences between the new and old lima engines for the OP.

when ur talking 14 horse in a motor that starts with less than 100, it's a big deal.
