Hey all,

I've put the details in the title as far as what setup I'm running.
Bottom line is that I have ignition issues. When I turn the key on, I get power to everything, so the battery is not an issue. Getting plenty of juice. I put a meter on the starter solenoid and it is getting +12 at the B+ terminal (I believe thats what it is called) like it is supposed to, but when you turn the key over to crank, the S terminal is getting no voltage. The solenoid is not bad. I replaced it and the new one still won't click. If I short it with a jumper wire (key on) it will start and runs fine. Some of my buddies have suggested it may be the clutch switch or ignition switch. I'm kind of lost. I haven't worked on any of these engines before. Shoot me some ideas guys! Thanks in advance for your help.

First off, Welcome to TRS!

Second, I am leaning toward your buddies explanation. you might jiggle the shifter to see if you can get it to start, if it does start, your neutral switch is probably bad. A sure test of it would be to get to the switch and jump it and see if that solves the problem. The Ignition switch is a bit harder, as it is in the the column under the dash.

As for the solenoid on the fender, that could still be an issue, you might have got a bad one from the parts store. So if the neutral switch does not fix the issue, you might revisit the solenoid.

I don't believe jiggling the shifter is going to help anything, It'll be the clutch position sensor most likely. All the rangers I've owned could be started in any gear with the clutch depressed but i never had one that started in Neutral without the clutch depressed. I don't even think any of the manual transmissions came with a NSS.

Yeah, if it's a stick, there is no neutral safety switch. Those are auto only. Manuals have a clutch safety switch, and I'll bet that's your problem.

Yeah, these guys are right, I was thinking auto... if it is manual, clutch switch.
