i just bought a 1994 ford ranger 4.0 auto and it seems to be sticking in certain gears for awhile till u let off i was told to check the kick down cable, i was wondering if anyone knows how they work.

I second that motion my a4ld does the same thing and im not totaly sure how my kickdown works but the only thing is i just had my truck in the trans shop n he said he had his transmission tech do some adjustments do you think he would have adjusted the kick down or would he have left that and i need to adjust it?

I just fixed mine, The kickdown cable is the cable to the left of ur throtle cable on ur gas pedal that then goes to the lever right above ur gear selector on the tranny. The kickdown should be pretty loose n only get engaged when u step hard on the pedal because that tells the tranny to downshift and give you better acceleration. hope that helps
