i bought a 1994 ranger with the 2.3l 5 speed.
They guy included another gauge cluster and speedo cable with it cuz he wasnt sure what was wrong
no my speedometer will jump around while im driving and the faster i go the worse it seems to get. every once in awhile it will make a wierd clicking noise.
my question is.
is the gauge cluster bad or the speedo cable bad.
and the cluster that is in the truck now has no tach on it but the one he gave me has a tach on it. so i need to do any other wiring for it?
and i would rather be able to fix the cluster that is in it now. i would rather have after market gauges so the fewer gauges on the cluster the better.
any help is great. thx

I would say try checking the speedo gear in the tranny make sure none of the teeth didnt strip out on it.

You could try lubing the cable up, I believe my dad had the same problem on his 94.

As far as the other cluster, it should just be plug and play

as the others have said, check the drive gear on the speed sensor in the trans, take the cable off and lube it or replace it, and once you plug the cluster in with the tach you should be good to go. on a side note my needle bounces sometimes at low speeds, butonce over 25 it becomes steady so i think over time the cables just get gunky inside and cause excessive resistance so the cable gets wound up and then breaks free and continues this cycle until you get moving fast enough to easily overcome the resistance.
