Hi,

I just picked up a 94 ranger 4wd manual 4.0l v6. It has some electrical problem. It's making me crazy. The guy who owned it before me really screwed things up.

I'm hoping somebody has a picture and a list of the wires going to the pcm. Grounded next to it is a light green and yellow wire that looks to go to the courtesy lights, a green and dark black wire, and a black wire. The light green and yellow wire is hot. The car will only start when this live wire is grounded, and it will also only start when the engine is cool. However, you can still push start it when the engine is hot.

Also, when it is grounded, I get a check engine light. A buddy of mine got these trouble codes:
113 intake air temp circuit
118 engine coolant temp circuit
123 throttle position circuit
341 octane adj servo pin in use

However, I went out and bought a code reader, and even borrowed his code reader, and I cannot get any codes. I have no idea how he did it. One of the wires that goes between the intake air temp sensor, engine coolant temp sensor, and throttle position circuit is a gray and red wire, and that also hooks to the code reader, so I think that's dead somewhere. From what I see in the chilton book the gray and red wire hooks to the pcm, but i see no gray and red wire anywhere near the pcm.

I have also changed the intake air temp sensor and engine coolant sensor but it didn't help. Also, the voltage meter is not working.

I'm pretty lost, none of the wiring problems make any sense. If anybody has any advice or a pic or list of the wires on the pcm plug (mine has 3 open spots) please let me know. I got burned bad buying this truck.

Thank you for any help!

Chris

Er I guess long story short, does anybody have a complete wiring diagram? The one in my chilton book is missing a lot. That and a layout of the connector going into the pcm. As of right now I'm out of ideas.

I have one out of haynes and it seemed pretty thourough. I have the 94 4.0 in my B2.
Might check ur local library to see if they have a haynes, or just buy one.

I believe that the light green a yellow goes from the fuel relay to the inertia switch, but I'm not sure because I don't have my manual in front of me.

I'm gonna have to order a haynes manual next payday, been checking the auto parts stores around here and all they have is chilton. I live in the middle of nowhere so my library is pretty useless. Maybe between the two books I'll have a complete listing of all the wires.

Does anybody know what this is?

It's located in the passenger floor, where your right foot would go if you were sitting in the passenger seat. It's got a blue cable with a computer looking connector to it and a connector with a bunch of wires. I thought it was the pcm all this time, but I found that.

It looks like a few wires were removed, one of which is the light green and yellow wire that goes to the dome lights, which is the live wire that must be grounded for the truck to start for some reason.

Here's a pic of where it's at:

I appreciate any help, I'm lost!

Looks like a stereo amp to me.

Why not just find the engine and underhood wiring harness off of a totaled Ranger from the same year/engine/trans and swap. Problem solved. Short of that, I'd look on evilbay for a factory electrical book. I have one for my Focus. It is pretty comprehensive and even has all the connector pin-outs.

True to that. THEY have a distribution deal with Performance Chips :D or something. Checked out all their subsidiary sites and it was all Chilton.

I switched over to Haynes Manual as they have more detailed explanations there for not-so technical people like me on automotive mechanics.
