I have a 1994 Ford Ranger that has a 4.0 and Manual trans. Yesterday when I went to drive it, the brake pedal was really hard to push and would not lock the tires up at all. It goes away after a few minutes. It reminds me of my old 1988 ranger with manual brakes, the way the pedal pushes.

I talked to a couple of people and they said that it was most likely my vacuum booster for my brakes. Does that sound like I am on the right track? I have great vacuum coming from the engine, I pulled the hose off and checked.

Thanks for all the help.

If you have strong vacuum to it, it does sound like a bad booster.

Is there any other way to check the vacuum booster? Or do I just have to replace it to find out if the old one was bad or not? Thanks for the help.

it could be just the check valve on the booster. you may find one at the auto parts store.

one way to check your booster is with engine off and foot on brake start the truck and the pedal should go down farther
