1994 Ranger 4x4

I have a '94 Ranger 4x4, xtra cab, manual 4WD. Just started noticing, while in 4WD mode, in gear, when I take my foot off the gas, I hear a clunking from what sounds like the front differential/front of the truck. Need help diagnosing possible causes/fixes?

I would manually rotate the front drive shaft to see if you can narrow down where the slack in the system is located.
