I have a 1994 Ford Ranger. I4 5spd RWD and within the last week or so the tranny will shift fine when the engine is off and shift fine with in the first mile or two. But as soon as the tranny heats up and i come to a stop it will not go into any gear at all without a lot of force. It also wont go into reverse without grinding gears. Checked fluid levels on clutch reservoir and on tranny everything was fine. Any ideas on what the problem could be and possibly how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

wont go into gear without griding gears.... your clutch isnt diss-engauging. you need a clutch. they are self adjusting, and when they get low it get very hard to shift. if its one gear, its a syncro, if its all gears its your clutch. dont push it into gear too hard, or you will bend a shift fork and mess up a syncro.

It goes into 1-5 without grinding its just hard to get it to go into any of them
the only gear that's grinding is reverse. So i kinda thought it might be the slave but idk. The clutch was replaced just 1 year ago. before i bought it the clutch wouldnt grab at all. after he put in a new one it barely let out and grabbed. so thats what led me away from clutch problems

Look into the hydraulic system. If the fluid is very dark, it should be flushed. This simple process, done on a yearly or semi-yearly basis can prevent a LOT of clutch/brake hydraulic failures.

Is it hard to replace the slave? im starting to think thats what it is.
