I have a 1994 B4000 the cam synchro went out on. I cant find any information online hardly, apparently the only aftermarket ones available are dorman units which are junk.

I managed to find a new old stock bosch on ebay for 150, but I had to remove mine to find the part number. How do I set it so its timed right? Its the type with the window, where is the line on the vane supposed to point at TDC?

Also can anyone rebuild them, the plug broke on mine and the wires werent connected, but it didnt make noise or anything, and they're hard to find.

I have been running a Dorman unit in my truck for about 4 years now and I have not had any issues with it.
You are supposed to have this tool that lights up when you hit the right spot. I just set the crank to 10*BTDC and spike the sensor in with the vane at the leading edge of the window. It may not be perfect, but it runs a lot better and more consistently than it did without the sensor in at all.

I stuck it at 0 TDC and the window has a long line and a short line and the vane has an orange marking that fits right between those two. Haven't fired it up yet but that seems right. Does take a little bit of force to seat it in there though. I thought it was the oil pump drive not lined up but it just needs to be driven in lightly.

Yeah, the o-ring can get stuck. It's best to lube it a bit.

Was it supposed to be set at 10 BTDC It kept cutting out and I advanced it by feel and reset the ecu and it's a lot better. I made sure to replace a bunch of other stuff first also.
