1994 b-3000 front diff

ya i was told that my truck was leaking fluid and it turns out my front diff drain bolt was stripped so all the fluid leaked out of that and i fixed the stripped bolt and now its leaking but not out of that bolt i think its leaking out of the gasket and i was wondering if any knows an easier way to change the gasket with out taking the whole front end apart?

its not a gasket. Its a seal

and no there is no way around it. you have to pull that front diff to put the new seal in. yeah it sucks but no other away that i know of.

what should i use to seal it just silicone or is there a certain thing to use?

high temp RTV (silicone) will work just fine.

FYI, unless someone has added one, there is no drain plug for the front diff.

oh cool thanks ya i just found another reason for the leak in the front diff 2 of the bolts on the bottom of the diff were stripped and i guess the guy i bought it off of just put high temp sealant or w/e on the bolt an shoved it back in. any ideas on how i could fix those stripped bolts????

you could try drilling and tapping the holes out with the next-size bigger bolt.

you could also try and get ahold of some heli-coils (thread repair kits).

ya i was wondering if this would work well my shop teacher told me that u can get like self tapping screws and i could put that in does anybody thing that would work or???cuz i used that same type of bolt for the drain screw on my diff it was stripped to and i use that self tapping screw and it worked

stay away from self tapping screws when going into aluminum. your quite likely to split the case. heck just tapping aluminum is harry enough at times. remember to go 1/4-1/2 turn at a time then back the tap out to remove the material.

Go to Canadian Tire and pick up a tube of "Right Stuff". I would suggest getting some heli coils to fix those stripped holes. When you go to fix that leak, make sure you get all the oil and goo off before you seal it back up with Right Stuff. I have sealed major leaks with this stuff and now I prefer it to any RTV.
