As I've had a couple later M5OD-R1's apart I can say that On the ones I worked on the
speedo drive hole for the VSS was simply not machined in the tailshaft housing.
However the output shaft itself was completely machined for the speedo drive gear, the anti-rotation ball and the Retaining Cir-clip, so presuming you have an output "Tail-cone"
for a speedo drive and the three internal parts (worm gear, location ball and cir-clip) it is something you should be easily able to retrofit.
I'm 99.5% sure I have a tail-cone and 110% sure I have the other three parts so failing all else PM me and I can send them to you, not free of course, but certainly a lot easier than harvesting the stuff from the local You-pull-it yourself
However I have never seen, let alone disassembled a 2wd M5OD-R1HD trans (01-up made specifically for a 4.0SOHC)
so for this you are on your own.
While I have in my physical possession TWO M%OD-R1HD transmissions, both are 4x4 transmissions, so would not answer you question even were they sitting in my lap right this minute, as 4x4 transmissions never have provisions for a speedo drive.
