1994 4.0 Auto XLT Click noise

We just had the truck's AC repaired and they found a bad injector which we had them do to. We have had it home for a couple weeks, having RPM surge issues which eventually settle out, BUT there is a loud clicking sound in the engine bay when the truck is put into reverse ONLY. Not consistent...varies in the patter of clicks. Sounds like the fan might be hitting something. The previous fan on the old engine had 3 cracked blades. I replaced the fan with the rebuilt engine I put in. The outside back corners are a bit rough to the touch on this fan so that is what I think might be hitting. Bit nervous about crawling under a vehicle in gear & running.

I would turn the engine off, and then carefully feel and inspect the inside of the shroud. Turn the fan by hand if it's a clutch fan and see if the fan is very close on one side or the other. There may be enough slop in the mounting bolts to slide it a little bit one way.

If the fan is hitting in reverse, if you put your foot on the brake hard and rev the engine up, it should hit even worse. If it does, you might want to check the motor mounts also.

Put masking tape on end of blades, see if its all still there after Reverse
