Does anyone know if the http://www.kustomz.com KKM 1993-4 intake kit will pass emissions. For that matter, does anyone know if I eliminate all the air injection crap, if my truck will pass emissions. I am an engineering student and the lack any logic to the intake system kills me. Thanks!

I heard they will pass. They make better kits for your Ranger and you can even use a kit from a honda I hear.

I do not have your engine but I have seen it done before.

Air injection crap? I haven't seen an air injection pump since the early to mid 80's.

Don't waste your money on Cold Air Intakes. Your truck already has one. And it flows more air than your truck will ever use. Just my 2 cents.

What air crap are you referring to?

There is a tube that runs from the intake piping before the filter box over to a fitting on the header. I assume this is air injection.

It is there to warm your engine up faster in cold weather and to keep the throttle body from icing. It opens to warm the incoming air, once the engine has warmed up it closes to allow cool air in.

that sounds like the warm up tube. It has a valve in the intake that opens when the motor is cold drawing heat from the exhaust manifold to help with warm up. helps keep the cold engine from missing/sputtering and the like until it is warm.

the lack any logic to the intake system kills me

just because you dont understand something doesnt make it illogical. everything on your truck was designed the way it is for a reason, whether you comprehend it or not. instead of fearing and attacking something because you dont understand its purpose or mode of operation, try doing some homework and increasing your knowledge about it. the warm air intake that your wanting to remove, while not vital for the engines operation, greatly improves cold engine driveability and prevents the potentially dangerous situation of throttle body icing.

your stock intake is a true cold air system, drawing cold outside air from near your passenger side headlight. that intake kit you want to waste money on utilizes an exposed cone filter under the hood, drawing in all that hot ambient air trapped under the hood. this will decrease performance.

Sorry to resurect this post. How do you know if this warm up tube/valve is opening and closing properly?
