1994 2.3 2wd longbed “70’s style”


hey do you have a picture of how the bull guard is mounted? I found a bull guard at my scrap yard and picked it up for a few bucks and its not made for a ranger so I just wanted to get an idea how a factory made one mounts up. If you could add a picture showing how it mounts to frame that would be awesome. Thanks. oh, and by johnny cash song are you talking about the Cadillac he built and its a 49, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54 ,55, 56, 57, 58, 59 automobile? i love that song.
 
yes, thats the correct johnny cash song, dont have a picture of the mounting of the grille guard, but basicially on each side of the frame theres 2 plates that are bolted together on each frame horn, at the bottom of the plates a leg sticks out and thats the bottom mounting point, the top mounting point just abobe the bumper is a metal bar that goes from the grille guard to the top of the plates that clamp to the frame horns. its hard to explain, this is a warn trans 4 mer grille guard, not sure if that helps, its hard to get a good picture of all that, the lightings not good under there and its all painted black. its a great grille guard, not sure if they even still make them. i bought it new for my '93 4x4 over 12 years ago.

awesome THANKS. I have been looking at picture on how these are mounted and I think I just need to get out my scrap metal plates and make something strong to mount to my frame. I don't know what kind of guard mine is. Doesn't have a name on it just some numbers stamped on it. Its heavy duty though. I know my truck isn't a 4x4 but i'd still like to mount it. We have a lot of deer accidents around here, not to mention all the people who cant drive. I like my truck and its my daily driver so I cant let something happen to it. Would be nice to get some deer in the freezer and not a scratch on my truck. plus I only paid 2-3 dollars for it at the scrap yard. They sell metal from their pile for 10-14 cents a pound depending on whos there. I seem to buy almost as much I get in scrap lol
 
I had to block off half of my rad one winter and it does help...except it warmed up suddenly and I forgot to remove the block...overheated...not good.

I was thinking of putting one of those slotted vents that some of the big rigs have on them...I'm pretty sure it could be set up to open and close with temperature variations but it would be more work than needed if I paid more attention...:)
 
I just took a look at your tailgate pic, looks real good.
 
added cab lights, always liked those, dont see many rangers with them. I should of painted the roof silver first.

creating a build thread “after the fact “ isnt easy. I didn’t realize I stopped, Im sure I posted stuff I did with pictures but they must be all over the place in random threads, luckily my flickr account has most everything and in order for the most part. Now if I can just remember specifics.
 
Moved the “ranger” emblem from front fender to the back bed corner, cause back in the ‘70’s “ranger” was a trim level and this was approximately where the nameplate went.

Vintage hubcaps- 1st set
these were originally on a ‘76 bronco, I made some filler plugs for the lockout hubs with plastic lids to fill the holes. Didnt run them very long, still have them up in the garage.

finished the top silver stripe on the fender/cab. It tapers to a point , remember the starsky & hutch torino? well I drew inspiration from that for this.

Painted the cap white, back in the day I remember aluminum caps coming in different basic colors but a ‘glass cap was always white. sometime in the ‘80’s having a cap color-matched to the truck became a thing, heck my first ranger (‘88 s/c) I bought a new cap for and had it painted to match.

Hood stripe: I felt the hood needed something more than just that late ‘60’s hood badge, made a tapered stripe, rest of hood was painted a metallic blue, couldnt find any more rustoleum cobalt blue like I had used on the bedsides/tailgate. The dark blue on hood between colors is the original blue of the truck.

Also I changed the grille from black to silver.
 
Fake 4x4: I always wanted to see if Id like a roll bar, they aint cheap though. Pvc is though. lol. I also scored some m/t classic 2 wheels for $80. and added some rubber fender flares. Looked good with these wheels but not so much with stock wheels during winter. Think I had the fender flares on a year, fake roll bar just for that summer.

76/77 series, found on fleabay. Like the look. Unfortunately this summer I lost 2 of them.

polished stainless wheel well trim:
love it! well worth the money. goes good with any wheel. Also s.s. bedrails for when the cap is off.
