1993 Splash build

My 79 44 has flat top knuckles stock. You sure yours dont? And Iirc, the Chevy outer shafts are a different length than our fords...

You can't drill/tap those knuckles for high steer arms though. There's not enough material to run it safely. Unless you have a supercab F150 D44 then it should already be drilled/tapped. They are rare axles though.

As far as I've researched, yes, the shaft lengths are different. You need to use the Chevy spindle, stub shaft, caliper bracket, and caliper for this modification to work.

Here's where I've done my research:

That's a great site and have been there many times when I was building my 44 for SVT. I still have that site bookmarked on my computer :icon_thumby:

tractor supply sells nicad? rod for roughly 7$ for a 1lb pack. thats where im getting mine :D

Nice! I'll keep that in mind. I was also reading up on another way to reattach the cast piece to the tube.

Heat the "cast" piece up with a torch, do a deep penetration run with your mig, peen it while it cools, and then a final weld, peening it as it cools. All the time keeping it hot with the torch. I believe 400 degrees is the proper temp. I'll see if I can find it.

I'd toss it on the grille for an hour at 425-450, that way the entire cast is the same temp, giving you time to both set it and weld it. Doing it this way also allows you to slide the cast on the tube easily to position, then burn it on. This is the way I did my 60 C the second time...

:icon_thumby: You're smarter than ya look! Lol Thanks for the tip. I'll definitely be doing that then this winter.

Well, there's not much to update on this. Been busy getting the house ready for winter. I'm going to pick up the good dana 44 tonight.

I've got my hands on a Low pinion non-CAD cherokee dana 30 if anyone's interested. I'd take $50 for it. No brakes but axle shafts come with it.

if no one wants the D30, i'd be interested in taking the axleshafts off your hands. too bad you arent closer, i'd get the whole thing

Outers are ABS. Inners look brand freakin new. I'd definitely be willing to ship them to you.

cool, i want some spares just in case. just shoot me a PM if you can get rid of the whole thing

Thanks bro. I'm thinking about keeping the steppie and building the cage around it. Should be interesting lol.

Got my chevy dana 44 flat top knuckles today from the JY for $60. What a PITA to find in my area. Still need to get the passenger side machined/drilled/tapped or find an OEM drilled/tapped passenger side knuckle.
