My credo
Sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you.
I'm doing my rear drum brakes, but I noticed on the adjustment part on the bottom of the assembly, mine didn't have the spring clip that connects to the adjuster plate. Is it supposed to have it? I'll upload a photo of what im talking about.

Ok in the photo circled in yellow you'll see the adjuster mechanism and the (fastener spring or clasp) that hooks underneath the adjuster mechanism and then thru the other side of the adjuster mechanism. Mine never had it. I have the adjuster mechanism, but I don't have that adjuster spring thing, whatchamacallit.

Further, when I go to the rockauto website to view the full rear brake part kits, that part is not shown in any of the kits. So I'm assuming my Ranger never had one.

Here's a better photo below. You'll see that leveler spring that sits on the adjuster mechanism, mine doesn't have one. Im not sure if my Ranger came with one from the factory stock.

Those pieces are part of the adjuster kit. Yes, the spring kit and adjuster kits are separate and there is a left and right adjuster kit. So you need three kits to do the whole deal (spring kit, left adjuster kit, right adjuster kit).

That's the adjuster return spring. The adjuster won't work without it.

I know that spring came in the last kits I used. But, If you look at the pictures on the page you posted, the return spring is not shown. I was on the Rockauto site same time as you looking at those listing. Might need to check other sites like Advance Auto, Autozone or O'Rielly.

There are no adjuster springs in any of those kits u posted. I looked on Rockauto too for a long awhile in all the kits. Found nothing.
Dang, I didn’t catch that… hang on…

So, I searched around. For whatever reason, the kits listed for the 93 Ranger lack the spring. I’m not understanding that one. An adjuster kit for a 97 Ranger has the spring.

Well I can't find one to purchase. And I believe on my brakes I don't have the fitting where that spring would sit in anyways. So I'm thinking mine never came with that spring.

Yes, now you understand my dilemma. Welcome to my world. I thought it was just me 🤣. This is why I originally posted the thread.

Ok, I see now…

Different design for the adjusters. It’s been awhile since I last worked on an older 8.8”, my 92 is the only old one, the 8.8” in my Choptop came from my green 00, so they all use the spring like you are referencing. The older ones did it with a different spring. I don’t remember exactly how your style goes offhand.

Yeah neither do I. 🤣
