I have a 1993 Ranger XLT 2.3L,

This is just an inquiry for future reference, but I was wondering on how to, or if is possible to convert my 2.3L manual to a 4wd? I was told that Explorer components such as the front axle and such would be a direct bolt in for my year of Ranger. I did search and it yielded nothing on this type of swap so I can say that I tried. Does anyone know anything about this swap?

Thanks,

Randy

probably as easy to do a sas (solid axle swap) when all is said and done. if you go with an explorer or another ranger, just get a donor that has been wrecked in the rear so all the components you need are there and good. just my $.02.

Yeah that is what I heard and what I want to do. I like the idea of getting 1991-1994 Explorer front end parts. What about my transmission? I have the 5-speed Mazda M5OD-R1, is that compatible to make it 4 wheel drive or do I have to get a 4 wheel drive transmission?

thanks,

Randy

Technically, you can find a 4wd transmission for a 2.3L. But I honestly wouldn't count on it. For the 2.3L it's way easier to rebuild the trans with 4x4 parts, consisting of a rear main shaft and extension housing.

I have the parts in my shed right now, Mine needs a clutch and I'm going to be adding a t-case to it. Not quite the whole 4x4 deal, but it'll take care of the transmission end.

I'll be making a tech article about it hopefully by the end of the month.

Nice, I would definitely like to see the tech article!!
