I'm replacing the pilot bearing after it has had a catastrophic failure. I'm hoping that someone knows of a bushing to replace the bearing with.

These usually come in a clutch kit.

A good parts store can get it but the question I have is how good is the clutch? Most times the clutch goes before the pilot bearing unless it was not changed when the clutch was. It is ware part and why they come in the clutch kit.

pilot bearings are readily available, a bushing may take some searching. you might have to make one.
some hardware stores carry assorted bushings, you might get lucky there.

search at Summitracing or Jegs for pilot bearings, several bushings will show up that may fit or be machined to fit.

I'm in the process of changing the clutch and slave cylinder assembly. The pilot bearing had maybe 3 needle bearings left and the rest has welded itself to the crank. I spent hours trying the pneumatic method. I've borrowed a puller and hopefully that works.

You are probably correct that the previous owner probably left the old one in while replacing the clutch. The truck currently has 250k miles on it. Hopefully the puller works. Chisel IL next.

There is no reason a pilot bearing wouldn't last the life of the clutch as long as everything is clean and properly installed. It's such an inexpensive part, it should be common practice to replace it every time the clutch is done. I hope the old one doesn't fight too hard during its removal.

they are a press fit and don't come out easily.
since yours is already destroyed,,,,,

if there is any lip left I put a long 5/8 bolt in, pull/push it sideways so the threads catch the lip then pound/bash it out.

the bearing casing is hardened, the crank is softer so chiseling may damage the crank if you're not careful.
a Dremel or mini grinder with a small bit can put a slot in the casing, easier to collapse it that way.
I used a stone, not a metal bit.
