Well, I think I'm gonna have to park the little green monster for a bit. I noticed rust holes in both of the forward leaf spring hangers in the cup above the spring eye and around the bolt. Also, on the passenger side, rust was pushing the base of the hanger away from the frame in between the rivets. Just a while ago I shoved a flat-bladed screwdriver through the frame just in front of that same hanger! I've already had some plate work done to the drivers side in the vicinity of the fuel tank a few years ago and the drivers rear corner where the bumper bolts on is pretty far gone, too.

I had a f150 that had a pretty bad frame in the rear. I went to the junkyard and they cut the back half of a better frame off a truck that was getting ready to go to the crusher and sold it to me for $50. I got the crossmembers I needed, along with the perches. Then it was a lot of rivet drilling and chiseling.

I had a couple of bad places in the frame also. I took those same sections on the good frame, and cut them out of the good frame. I then cut the top part of the "C" off the good frame pieces and turned them into a "L". This slid right in on the inside of the frame, doubling up the original frame. I didn't even have to weld it in place, it was rusted near the spring perches and the crossmembers, so when I went to bolt the new ones in place, the bolts held the repair piece in place also. After I painted it all up you had to look really hard to see it had been repaired.

It was a lot of work, but I had lots of time and not much money. It was way cheaper than a new truck.

Another rust belt horror story.

Not saying it isn't worth fixing... but I would poke around everywhere really good before I went thorough fixing it a second time.

If it aint broke in half run it.

gonna have shit like that round heeeya.

Frames are stupid.

You can do whatever is in your heart.

I don't suppose I could use the back half from a 98 ranger since it is modular could I?

I found this thread, and from what I get from it, it may work. But only the back half.
