I have developed a slight knock on the bottom left of my engine, used a breaker bar (French stethoscope) and it's definitely coming from the bottom left. I found this..

Engine Knock:

Some 2.3L engines (especially 1992-1993) have knocking on the lower left side of the engine. The cause is oil pressure problems. The solution is a revised oil pump and a gallery plug with a pressure damping rod.

Is this caused because of high oil pressure? since it's a dampening rod?
And has any one dealt with this known issue?

Never had a 2.3l but did find a TSB that says this:

1993 FORD RANGER
Bulletin Number: 13118
Sequence Number: 6091931
Date: 19990801
Component Name: 061100 ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:GASOLINE
Make: FORD
Model: RANGER
Year: 1993
Summary:
SOME VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT AN ENGINE NOISE WHICH MAY BE PERCEIVED BY THE CUSTOMER AS A PISTON / CONNECTING ROD BEARING KNOCK

"perceived by the customer", lol, a knock is a knock

Oil passage(gallery) plug and dampening rod would mean to me that too much of the oil pressure was being lost to one passage thus lowering the pressure on all the others.
So you partially plug that passage to raise overall pressure.

Oil pressure is not created by the pump, it creates the flow of oil.
The pressure comes from the size of the holes the oil goes out of and back to the oil pan.
When an engine is new the bearing gaps are small so pressure is high, as bearings wear the gaps get larger and pressure is less, this is normal.
So oil pressure is back pressure created by the gaps(holes) but also based on the pumps flow volume.
If there was a design flaw in the 2.3l then as bearings wear the pressure may drop too low, the fix is to limit flow to a passage that was the design flaw, too large of a hole.

I did a search but couldn't find a lot about this reference for the 2.3l, I did find an issue that related to the oil pan sealant Ford used, it would harden and break off in the pan then clog up the oil pickup.

Does any one have a link for the revised pump and gallery plug?
Any change I can take the plug from a newer truck.?
