Hello,

I have a 93 ford ranger (body), with a rebuilt engine, tranny, etc from a 1994 ranger under the hood. Just recently bought the truck. It runs great, and tows a lot better than I thought it would. Anyhow...

It has a whir noise to it. It whirs while taking off, and going down the road. It starts low and winds up, as RPMs rise, and does it every time I change gears. It don't do it in 4th gear though.

Sounds like you have a manual trans. Check the fluid level and make sure your finger gets wet when you check. If it's low top it off with Dex III / Mercon. I let mine get low before and it sounded like one of those road course racing trannies!

while youre checking the fluid level you should also check for wetness around the shifter area, the manuals are notorious for leaking shift rail plugs and torn shifter shaft seals, both will have major contibutions to the death of an M50D.
